Is it necessary to have SAP roles authorization objects in default or maintain status prior to implementing sap grc access control 10.1?

Is it necessary to have roles authorization objects in default or maintain status prior to implementing sap grc access control 10.1?   I am referring to having the authorizations objects in roles   that are in manual and change status to default or maintain.
